1. Last spring, Scott was lifting a heavy railroad tie in our backyard, when POP! (not usually a good thing) He found out soon after that he had a hernia but we decided to wait it out a little bit. Well after my lovely hospital stay, we decided to take care of it this year (insurance reasons). So last Friday Scott went in for surgery. It went great, and his recovery has been fine.
Scott curses the garden that we were building when he got the hernia, because not only did he get a hernia because of it, we also broke his sister's windshield, and the corn we grew in it tasted terrible! Blasted. We are getting rid of that garden...
2. Well, besides the corn garden, our other garden has been lovely this year. Our best plants have been our peas, squash, zucchini, tomatoes, carrots, and cucumbers. Not so good- onions, green beans, peppers (only 2 the whole summer!), and corn.

3. So we are realllllly careful about locking up our house/car ever since we had my car's window broken and stuff stolen from it, and Scott's car had things stolen from it, and then ultimately the whole thing stolen. Plus lately I have heard of a few instances around the neighborhood of robberies so I am EXTRA careful!! So you can imagine I was SICK this morning when Scott told me I forgot to shut the garage door last night and it had been wide open ALL night!! I seriously felt so sick and could not believe that everything was right where it was supposed to be! Wow, makes me feel like I live in Leave it to Beaver's neighborhood all of a sudden! Don't worry, I'm not fooled.4. We also woke up today to NO sunshine. This is a rare thing here to not have the sun shining in the morning. It has been raining allll day- also rare. It's kind of weird! I feel like some of the happiness has been sucked out of me. I definitely could not live in Forks.
5. Makenna had her 4 year-old check up today. Everything went great! They did some new tests today such as a vision test and hearing test and they went very well. She was also very brave when she got her immunizations and didn't cry. That makes me feel so much better because I hate feeling like she thinks it's my fault that they are hurting her. But nope, she just shook it off like nothing. Love that. Stats: height 41 1/2 (85 percentile), weight 38 lbs (75 percentile).
6. Favorite Costco item of the month- mickey mouse chicken nuggets!! Holy cow those things are so good and they are made with decent ingredients too. yummmmmmmm
7. Callings. I think I forgot to mention on here that Scott began his seminary calling a few weeks ago. It has been crazy to get used to since we are late night people, but I have already seen how it has blessed our lives. I have actually found that I am enjoying going to bed early and getting up early! Now who would have thought?! I also got a little calling change last week from YW counselor to YW adviser. I am really grateful to have the opportunity to teach the awesome girls in my ward! I am definitely feeling a little inadequacy/nervousness because I remember what an impact my advisers had on me when I was in YW. I think it will be really great though.
8. I wish I could have been at the 9/12 March on Washington. It feels good to know that even though I don't feel Washington represents me, I feel represented by all those millions of people who marched that day. Our government has got to stop the over-spending. They need to stop trying to control everything and let the people do it for themselves. I love this quotation by Abraham Lincoln...
"You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves."
I wish we could get back to the roots of our Constitution and the beliefs that those amazing men had for our country. It is scary where it is going now...
